Legal Observer Renee Good Fatally Shot By ICE Agent During Raid

The fatal shooting of Legal Observer Renee Good by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on a residential street in Minneapolis is being viewed by many local leaders as another painful example of immigration policies that bring fear, chaos, and deadly consequences to already targeted communities.

Video circulating online shows ICE agents confronting a woman seated in her SUV and ordering her to exit. Within seconds of the vehicle beginning to move, an agent standing in front of the car fired multiple shots through the windshield. Less than three seconds passed between the car reversing, moving forward, and the gunfire. As the SUV rolled away and crashed into another car, a bystander can be heard shouting, “Dude, you did a murder, for what?”

Federal officials quickly framed the killing as justified. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem claimed the woman “attacked them” and that an agent “acted quickly and defensively.” A DHS spokesperson went further, labeling the incident an “act of domestic terrorism.” Yet video evidence shared publicly shows no snow obstruction, no stalled vehicle, and no clear attack before shots were fired.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz forcefully rejected the federal narrative. “We have someone dead, in their care, for no reason whatsoever,” he said, adding, “What we’re seeing is the consequences of governance designed to generate fear, headlines and conflict… today that recklessness cost [someone] their life.” Walz later warned the public, “I’ve seen the video. Don’t believe this propaganda machine.”

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey was even more direct, calling federal claims “bulls---” and “a garbage narrative.” He accused ICE of “ripping families apart” and said their actions are “sowing chaos on our streets, and in this case, quite literally killing people.”

Representative Ilhan Omar described the killing as “unconscionable and reprehensible,” stating that ICE’s operations are “terrorizing neighborhoods and now killing a civilian.” For communities already living under constant surveillance and enforcement pressure, the shooting stands as a devastating reminder that aggressive immigration actions do not just disrupt lives — they can end them.
