With midterm elections less than a week away, President Biden addressed the nation this past Wednesday night with a warning that "American democracy is under attack". Calling out the surge in politically motivated violence in the United States in the wake of the Trump administration, Biden urged Americans to be aware of "an alarming rise in the number of people in this country condoning political violence or simply remaining silent". This comes just a week after a planned kidnapping attempt on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that left her husband Paul critically injured.
Voter intimidation and violence has been a recurring threat to Americans for decades, especially Black and brown voters. How we vote in the next few days will determine if future legislative policy and lawmakers enable rampant political chaos, or work towards the change this country desperately needs.
