Trump Replaces PBS and NPR With PragerU, Pushing Conservative Propaganda Into Schools

Over the last 25 years, no administration has intervened in the culture wars as aggressively as President Donald Trump’s. “There’s no debate to be had here,” the piece argues, noting that neither Biden, Clinton, Bush, nor Obama used executive power to push ideology over practicality in the same way. Acting on Trump’s direction, congressional Republicans cut federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, crippling NPR and PBS, which the White House accused of spreading “radical, woke propaganda disguised as ‘news.’” The author mocks this claim, pointing out Trump’s own baseless conspiracy theories about the 2016 and 2020 elections.

In place of PBS and NPR, the Trump administration has turned to PragerU, “a right-wing non-profit that has no educational credentials but definitely dabbles in white nationalism and Black history whitewashing.” Founded by Dennis Prager, PragerU has produced content denying systemic racism and promoting race hoaxes.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’s administration recently approved PragerU classroom materials as part of broader state education changes that, opponents say, downplay slavery and racial violence. One PragerU video for children even suggests Frederick Douglass would have agreed with prioritizing white supremacy over ending slavery. The author sarcastically imagines a theme song for “White Supremacy Street.”

The critique emphasizes the hypocrisy: conservatives accuse NPR and PBS of pushing propaganda, then replace them with a blatantly ideological source. “Conservatives only think PBS is ‘woke’ because the absence of bigotry and emphasis on acceptance and diversity constitutes wokeness to them,” the author writes. This, they argue, reveals not only hypocrisy but also “a descent into authoritarianism,” as the MAGA movement abandons its stated principles of small government and limited federal power.

The administration’s cultural playbook leaves little to the imagination: strip funding from PBS and NPR for allegedly harboring “leftist bias,” replace them with PragerU’s openly ideological programming, and recast educational materials to fit a nationalist, revisionist narrative of U.S. history. This shift isn’t just a change in content—it’s an intentional move to narrow the spectrum of public discourse, distort historical truth, and weaken democratic values by sidelining fact-based, inclusive perspectives in favor of partisan propaganda.
